Title: Fishing Cars
Description: My car

Martyn - January 31, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
Main family car not suitable so second car sought for fishing. At last after many days travelling the region (typically 150 mile round trips) I have found a motor. Budget was 2 grand, that limits choice!
Tried a Freeelander; paint laquer peeling like my face on holiday, enough water in the footwells to stock some fingerlings.
Honda CRV being sold for £2400 had such a noisy diff. local kids thought they were being shot.
Disco's that had endured a life pulling horseboxes. With 2 horses. Shirehorses.
Finally acted quickly on a private sale in autotrader got a 97R Honda CRV with 84000 miles, recent cambelt, no lights flashing on dash. Drives lovely and got the ground clearence to get me to the river. Cost £1990. Fingers crossed it hasn't any hidden surprises. No excuses now, get them rods out, they've been in the holdall so long I'm sure they will be blinking at the daylight.
Tight lines everyone.

If I sat in there with a realtree jacket on it would look like a driverless car !

CRV update: decided to treat the car to a full service to find out if any probs, as the oil hadn't been changed for two years (although it had only done 4500 miles since).
Service about £180, only prob they found was leaking radiator, which is another £160 + fitting, so can't afford the camou seats now.
Also checked petrol consumption, one long journey and lots of school runs = 28 mpg. Same journeys in volvo diesel 38 mpg.
Kids love it though tons of room.
Still busy with work so can't get fishing yet.

Do you remember seeing the illegal immigrant caught disguised as a car seat:

Listening to the new budget on five live last night and recon if they want to charge me £950 per year for road tax the lanny will have to go :( . Does anyone know if this is for new builds only as the last price hike was for any models after 2001.

Martyn - March 13, 2008 09:43 AM (GMT)
The £950 (showroom tax) is for the first year only, ie when you buy a new car, then £455 per year thereafter. That's for band L cars from 2010.
Not sure if your motor will have a different band with it being old, see tables below.
In any case you won't be paying £950 unless you buy a new one.

VED for petrol and diesel cars from 13 March 2008

Band A (up to 100g/km CO2) no fee
Band B (101-120g/km CO2) £35
Band C (121-150g/km CO2) £120 £5 increase
Band D (151-165g/km CO2) £145 £5 increase

Band F (185g/km to 225 CO2)£210 £5 increase

Band G* (226g/km and above ) £385 £100 increase
* For new cars registered from 23 March 2007

Changes to VED rates will take effect from 13 March 2008. VED rates for all cars registered before 2001 will rise by £5.
